Would you wish a better world, a world without poverty, war, pollution, disease? It is hard to imagine how people would feel in such a world, how their daily lives would be. But it is possible to compare today's world to the world at some previous time in history where it was a far less hospitable place.
Until science shows the way (if it is not too late), people can use philosophy to make the world such a heavenly place.
You may believe either of the following two possibilities: there is life after death (i.e. the soul survives) and soul ceases to exist with death.
Think for a moment what would be the implications on human behaviour/action in his every day life if the latter was true.
What if everybody in the world believed/felt strongly/was convinced about the latter possibility? Wouldn't that make the world a better place? Wouldn't men be incapable of harming, directly or not, others, animals and the environment if they knew that with death everything is lost forever and ever?
The world, however, is not such a place because people usually don't even consider about the terrifying idea that after death, is like before birth, the nothingness, the inexistence.
So if people were convinced that their life is all they ever got and will ever have, how would they be unsympathetic for others and the planet in general? Wouldn't they value life as the ultimate asset?
